Child Therapy

I work with children and teens, ages four to 17 using Adlerian, Psychodynamic, and IFS approaches to child psychology and play therapy. We know that children’s language is play. Even though children understand so much, they often are not able to communicate their thoughts, feelings, and emotions verbally. However, through play, children can more fully express themselves. I use play and expressive arts activities, as well as sand tray therapy, to engage with children. My approach is both directive and non-directive. I also strive to create an egalitarian relationship with children based on a foundation of dignity and respect. For tweens and teens, play therapy is still appropriate, in addition to talk therapy. The approach depends on the tween or teen, and I allow their needs to guide our work together, responding in a way that that meets each individual child.

I work with children/tweens/teens who are experiencing anxiety, whose parents are separationg or divorcing, experiencing sadness, grief, and psychosomatic symptoms, as well as acting out behaviors and school refusal.

Play therapy helps children work through difficulties via physical and imaginative activities. It also helps children neurologically process changes, losses, and adjustments they are experiences.
